WAETTA is a weather app. It is designed to work with as little data as possible: no account, no tracking, no ads.
To show the weather, the coordinates of your selected or permitted current place are sent to MET Norway (api.met.no / yr.no) for forecasts, precipitation nowcast and coastal data.
Place search uses Apple's CLGeocoder, a network-backed geocoding service. Maps use Apple MapKit. Place search and maps are not guaranteed to be processed entirely on your device.
Radar and forecast map requests go to radar.henner.store, WAETTA's service for EUMETNET/OPERA and Deutscher Wetterdienst ICON-EU data. Satellite imagery is requested from EUMETSAT (view.eumetsat.int) and NASA GIBS (gibs.earthdata.nasa.gov). These requests include the map area, zoom level and time needed for the imagery.
Swedish warnings are fetched from SMHI and filtered against the selected location on your device, preserving the original warning text. This request does not send your coordinates to SMHI. Tropical cyclone information is fetched from the WMO Severe Weather Information Centre when used. Links to official warning services open their respective websites.
When you open forecast comparison, selected coordinates are sent to SMHI's SNOW forecast API (opendata-download-metfcst.smhi.se). This optional request is distinct from the warning request and does not run in the background.
Network services receive connection information such as an IP address and the requested resource. Their processing is subject to their own privacy policies. WAETTA+ purchases and payments are handled by Apple StoreKit; the app reads purchase status to unlock or restore access.
WAETTA does not use Open-Meteo. WAETTA does not use advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking identifiers.
Favorites and preferences are stored locally on your device. WAETTA does not require an account.
The local weather journal contains dated saved forecasts, not measured observations. It can be exported or deleted per place. Export uses the destination you choose in the iOS share sheet and does not include coordinates.
Forecast responses are cached locally for offline display for up to 24 hours. Offline forecasts are marked and are not used for new precipitation alerts. The app shares a small forecast summary (place name, weather and timestamps) with its own widget through an iOS App Group. The widget makes no weather network requests. You can clear the forecast cache and widget summary in settings.
If precipitation alerts are enabled, the selected place and a bounded history of alert windows are stored locally to avoid duplicates. Disabling this feature clears its saved place and alert history and cancels pending precipitation notifications. Previously delivered notifications remain managed by iOS.
Location and notifications are optional. You can deny them and still use the app with manual places and without alerts.
Rain and snow checks use your selected place while WAETTA is active. This version does not poll MET Norway in the background and does not track GPS continuously. Previously scheduled local notifications may appear later, but closed-app rain monitoring and timely delivery are not guaranteed. Alerts may contain the place name and a locally generated forecast image; iOS controls Lock Screen visibility.
Sharing a forecast uses the iOS share sheet and sends the displayed place name and forecast only to the destination you choose.
